The Fengli Canal of the Song Dynasty and the Yushi (Censor) Wang Canal of the Yuan Dynasty are the water-diversion canals of the Jing River of the past periods with better preserved headworks. This paper explores the technical details of these canal headworks: the tandem double-sluice structure and the A-shaped plan of the head of the Yushi Wang Canal had the function of "restricting the water (to make it rapid enough) to flush away the silt"; the stone pit on the top of Yushi Wang Canal might be related to the Chinese noria set by Yuan Baoheng; the stone blocks bearing postholes scattered in the riverbed might be related to the flood-defending stone weir.
