Narrative Strategies in Heiner Muller's The Elevator Man

The short story The elevator man written by Heiner Muller in 1979 has attracted the attention from numerous literature critics with its ingenious conception, bizarre plot, well-contained symbolic meaning in the text although being less than thousands of words. This paper, based on the narrative theory, analyzes the narrative skills in The elevator man respectively from the narrative perspective, the technique of stream-consciousness and uncertain narration, and presents the artistic effects from the use of these techniques.
