Being the maiden work of the new-generation of Chinese American writer Fae Myenne, Bone depicts the story of a shattered family in Chinatown of San Francisco. Being in a new culture, both the old and new generations of Chinese Americans would go through identity crisis, losing balance in handling the relationship between man and self, man and others, man and society. Only by surpassing the set pattern of Sino-western cultural conflict and accepting binary co-existence can Chinese Americans strike a balance between the two different cultures. Then they can construct a genuine self, restore the balance in the relationship between man and self, others and society, and finally solve the self spiritual ecological crisis.
