Study on the Pragmatic Enrichment of Cohesion in Chinese-English Translation of Legal Judgment

法律判决书英译在涉外法律交流中起着重要作用。从语用充实视角探讨法律判决书英译中语篇衔接问题的处理,汉英翻译中的语篇衔接处理不仅涉及语言结构差异,还涉及特定语境下的语用加工过程。提出关联理论和顺应理论关照下翻译中语用充实的语用机制,并结合民事判决书和仲裁判决书英汉双语文本实例,对法律判决书英译中的语篇衔接类语用充实现象进行语用阐释。

The Chinese-English translation of legal judgment plays an essential role in international legal communication. This paper explores the discursive cohesion in translating Chinese legal judgments from the perspective of pragmatic enrichment. It is observed that the translation of cohesive devices is not only relevant to the differences in their syntactic structure,but also concerns the pragmatic processing in particular contexts. First,it expounds the mechanisms of pragmatic enrichment applied in translation based on relevance theory and adaptation theory. Then,it exemplifies the application of pragmatic enrichment of cohesion in translation in a Chinese civil judgment text and a Chinese arbitration judgment text,and elaborates on its pragmatic mechanism.
