Chunk Theory and Compilation of English Learners' Dictionary

语块理论同样适用于词典编纂。探讨适用于词典编纂实际的语块定义和分类,通过分析《牛津高阶英语词典》第八版和《朗文当代高级英语辞典》第五版在语块信息处理方面的特点,发现主流英语学习词典注重语块信息处理,但存在语块义项整体性被割裂等问题。因此,在编纂中国国别特色的英语学习词典时应秉承用户友好原则,大量呈现语块信息,并增设语块信息错误警示。

Chunk theory is equally important in the dictionary compilation. This paper tries to explore the definition and classification of chunks from the lexicographical perspective and to figure out the features and shortcomings in presenting chunk information in the contemporary English learners5 dictionaries on basis of analyzing the 8th Edition of Oxford Advanced Learners 5 Dictionary and the 5th Edition of Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English. The author also proposes that wThen compiling a user friendly English learners’ dictionary for the Chinese learners,as many chunks should be provided as possible and error warning be a must.
