通城方言的名词性标记"者1"是名词词缀,附着在别的成分后面,构成"X者"式名词;"者2"是结构助词,附着在别的结构后面,构成名词性"X者"结构;"者1"还可以构成"[[X·N缀]·者]"式双词缀名词。名词性标记"者"具有构词性和构形性,有自指或转指功能。"者1"有词汇附加义,表示小称或爱称。"者"与普通话词缀"者、子、儿"有异同。

The noun markers ＂Zhe＂（者1） in Hubei Tongcheng dialect is a noun suffix, as it can be used after other elements to constitute ＂X Zhe＂ （者1）＂ type noun; ＂Zhe＂（者2） is a structural auxiliarie used after other structure to constitute ＂X Zhe＂ （者2）＂ type noun structure. ＂X Zhe＂ （者1）＂ can constitute [[X ·N-suffix] ·者] type of double-suffix noun. The noun markers ＂Zhe＂（者） has its unique morphological characteristics which involves both inflectional changes and derivative form, with its self-designation or transferred-designation function .
