Torn between a Postmodern Drive and a Premodern Inclination:Crisis in the Theorization of Translation

翻译研究的理论化目前遇到前所未有的困难,导致了翻译理论建构乃至学科建设的空前危机。其表现为,身在"后现代",而无可成说;坚持"前现代",但散漫不堪;更严重的是,夹缝之间却无所意识?本文以Bassnett、Hermans及Long等为例说明前者的问题;以Anthony Pym、"目的论"及钱歌川为例显示后者的危害。"现代"的缺席或正说明,那是一项有待完成的工程,需要我们回返现场,寻找翻译的理论建构新的线索。讨论尽管限于上述理论的有关论断和论述方式的批判,但或已见出翻译研究举步维艰:需另寻他途,才可超克"现代"?

The confrontation between a postmodern resistance to logical thinking and a premodern rejection of systematic formation has plunged TS into a little-noticed crisis. By subjecting representative thinkers of both tendencies to a close examination with a view to addressing the issues involved, this paper argues that it is the absence of the modern that has caused all the problems to a proper theorization of translation, and that turning attention to the unfinished project of modernity is the only way to get TS out of the crisis and into a healthy mode of theoretical production.
