Establishment and Inheritance: Liu Xianzhou and Research on the History of Mechanical Engineering in China at Tsinghua University

刘仙洲(1890~1975)是中国机械史学科的主要奠基人。文章从学术史角度对刘仙洲在清华大学开拓中国机械史的研究工作和推动机械史学科发展的贡献进行了较为全面的梳理和考察。内容包括他早期对中国机械史研究的开拓工作、新中国成立后对中国机械史的系统整理与研究、他的治学方法及其特色和他的学术工作的传承与影响。

Liu Xianzhou （ Liu Hsien-chou, 1890 - 1975） was the main founder of the history of mechanical engineering in China. From the perspective of academic history, this article provides a systematic and comprehensive summary and analysis of his contributions to the establishment and development of this discipline at Tsinghua University. It concentrates in particular on： his pioneering work on the establishment of the history of mechanical engineering in China, his systematic collection and analysis of materials relevant to the history of mechanical engineering in China after the founding of the P. R. China, his scholarly methods and their characteristics, and the inheritance and influence of his academic work.
