In the interview with John Powers, director Wong Kar-wai talks about the origins of his two films, and explains the idea and approach in his filmmaking. When making In the Mood for Love, he mingled his personal memory and a kind of nostalgia to recreate the mood in his childhood, thus revisited Hong Kong in 60s. While in The Grandmaster, the legacy was regarded as the core theme, with that the movie focused on how Ip Man rise to become a grandmaster, also asserted the value of traditional Chinese martial arts.
