Objective From the point of view of traffic safety, based on the travel and cognitive characteristics of primary and secondary school students, the improvement scheme of current traffic signs design was put forward. Meth- ads Experiment was designed for 2400 primary and secondary school students and the existing traffic signs defects were analyzed. Results In the existing traffic signs, the correct rate of cognition and understanding of primary and sec- ondary school students was 67.92% , length of fixation was 885ms, and the red mark recognition rate was 87.3%. There were some difficult to understand, monotonous design ,the height of static traffic sign not reasonable, inadequate humanizationand other issues. The improvement plans for the color, pattern, material, position and height of the traffic signs were proposed to improve the fun and usability of traffic signs. Conclusion Combined with primary and secondary school students'travel and cognitive characteristics to improve the existing traffic signs can solve the problems of adult, ambiguity and no affinity, so as to ensure the safety of primary and secondary school students'travel.
