Decentralization and limited rights: Hanlin scholars and premier politics in Song Dynasty under imperial power

宋代翰林学士与宰辅的关系比较微妙,在宰辅的人事任免上,翰林学士有一定的影响力;翰林学士也极有可能成为宰辅,对在任宰辅构成了潜在的威胁。由于翰林学士地位特殊,宰辅重臣对这一群体是有所忌惮的。权臣与翰林学士相交结,对两宋政治产生过不同程度的影响,尤其是在两府不得因私晤见翰林学士的禁令被打破之后,其影响更为明显。

The relationship between Hanlin scholars and premiers was subtle in Song Dynasty.Hanlin scholars had certain influence on premiers'appointment and removal personnel.And Hanlin scholars were also very likely to be premiers later,which was the potential threat to a premier in office.Because of the special status of Hanlin scholars,premiers feared them.Hanlin scholars associate with authorized ministers had influence on the two Song Dynasties politics in different degree.Especially after the breaking of the ban that the two senior officials mustn't meet Hanlin scholars privately,the influence was greater.
