文化的传承 语言的记载——评《中华汉英大词典(上)》

《中华汉英大词典(上)》的出版备受学界的关注,其侧重描写主义的收词原则和追求精当译名的努力,使得这部词典已成为汉英词典领域的新军。主编陆谷孙先生所提倡的"有保留的描写主义"和"超越等值"等编纂原则从一定程度上丰富了汉英词典的编纂理论。文章先从文化传承、语言记载和翻译三个方面对该词典做出肯定的评介,然后就该词典在收词、翻译等方面存在的不足之处做出剖析。

The Chinese-English Dictionary( Unabridged) chief-edited by Professor Lu Gusun adopts descriptivism in entry collection and spares no effort to improve its entry and example translations. The lexicographic ideas Professor Lu advanced,such as 'descriptivism with a grain of salt ' and 'translation beyond equivalence ', have, to some extent, enriched C-E lexicography. This article reviews this dictionary from three perspectives, namely, cultural inheritance,language recording,and translation. It also discusses some of its weaknesses in entry collection and translation.
