The Ming and Qing dynasties wordbooks have shown a lot of progress and innovation in variant characters processing: more progressive in the principles of picking the variant characters and the pattern of variant characters explaining, more correct in selection and deletion, more in-depth in interpretation and differentiation. These evolution is not only the result of the progress of the times, but also cannot be divorced from the developed, practical literal idea and orthographic view of the writer.
