Adaptive Reuse of Fort Adams——Exploration of Historical Architectural Renovation in a Contemporary Context

本文通过笔者亲身参与的美国纽波特市亚当堡改造项目,试图探索在当代语境中历史建筑改造的新思路,并为中国的历史建筑保护与更新提供灵感与建议。基于亚当堡的案例,笔者详细阐述了此更新项目的设计思路,策略以及过程,并对历史、语境以及衰变在当代历史建筑改造中的意义进行了论证。

Based on the adaptive reuse project of Fort Adams （Newport, RI,The United States） that the author participated, this essay is aimed to explore the new ideas for historical architectural ten-ovation in a contemporary context; in the meantime, to provide inspirations and suggestions to historical architectural renovation industry in China. Based on the renovation project of Fort Ad-ams, the design approach, strategies, and process of this renovation are documented in details in this essay; additionally, the meaning of history, context, and decay in contemporary historical architectural renovation are also discussed.
