张爱玲笔下的人物,各自为着自己的生存、发展而抗争、寻求安稳,但都最终屈服于外界环境的限制,萦绕在这过程中的是悲哀的余音。一部《传奇》,让我们读出作者苍凉的生命意识:(一)人渴望确定自身存在的价值而不可得;(二)人不能选择自己的命运;(三)人不能掌握自己的命运;(四)人逃脱不了情欲的支配。

The characters described by Zhang Ailing are the same as people in actual life. They struggled for their survival and development and sought for stabilization but finally yielded to the limit of external environment. A mournful aftersound hovered through out the process. By reading Legend, we could comprehended the desolate living awareness of the author. First, people had been longing for ensuring the value of their existence but they could never get it. Second, people couldn't choose their destiny. Third, people couldn't control their destiny. Finally, people could never escape from the domination of lust.
