＂ Compendium of Materia Medica＂ made a collection of 422 Chinese herbal medicines and the names of the collected medicines are relatively complicated. From a cognitive point of view, the names of these herbal medi- cines involve such cognitive models as propositional patterns, metonymic models. The analysis of Chinese herbal names from imagery schema patterns, metaphorical patterns, and the cognitive model will help to better understand the naming characteristics of Chinese herbal medicines and the attributes of Chinese herbal medicines.
