伟大的母亲 永恒的家园——析《女勇士》之“乡村医生”中的“母亲”形象

Great Mother, Eternal Home——On the Mother Image of M. H. Kingston's Woman Warrior

《女勇士》是华裔作家汤亭亭的代表作。这部妇女文学的经典力著,受到了文学评论界的关注和青睐。其第三章“乡村医生”着重描述了母亲“勇兰”的故事。纵观国内外评论界,尚未有人从原型批评,尤其是从母亲原型这一角度分析过该作品。本文用原型批评的角度剖析了这位身份独特的美籍华裔母亲形象。通过梳理和还原,发现母亲“勇兰”所折射的是“大地母亲”原型的肯定方面——天下慈母皆怀有伟大的母爱,是子女永恒的家园。这一具有人类共通性的母亲原型对中美乃至世界文化的沟通与融合具有启发性,并为之做出了乐观的预见。

Woman Warrior is the magnum opus of Chinese-American woman writer M.H.Kingston. It is a masterpiece of woman literature and arouses the general concern and favor in literary critical field. Chapter Three 'Shaman' of 'Woman Warrior' is chiefly about the story of the extraordinarily great mother, Brave Orchid. Given a broad overview of the criticisms about this book in and out of China, until now there is no one that analyzes it in the theory of archetype criticism especially from the angle of mother archetype. This paper analyzes the image of the special mother with a Chinese American identity from the angle of archetype criticism. Through combing out and delineating, it can be found that what Mother Brave Orchid reflects is the typical positive aspect of the archetype of 'Earth Mother' that all the loving mothers nourish great love towards their children and are their eternal home and safety harbor. Such a mother archetype with the commonness true of the whole human beings is suggestive to and also optimistically foresees the communication and acculturation of Chinese and American cultures and even of the cultures all over the world.
