Diogenes and Alexander by the late classicist Gilbert Highet describes a meeting between two sharply contrasting personalities of history: Alexander the Great and Diogenes. In this article, Gilbert Highet describes Diogenes from different perspectives to deliberately make him appear as he really is—a dog, or a cynic. This paper tries to analyze Diogenes and his cynicism from his characters, behavior, others’remarks on him, and the contrast between him and Alexander.
