Brief Review on Xie Lansheng,a Calligrapher of South of the Five Ridges

谢兰生是清代广东一位著名诗人、经学家、教育家和书画家。他生活的时代,是清由强转衰的时期,他的文艺思想,与时代息息相关,集中体现在他的序跋之中,观点鲜明,见解独特,在岭南文学艺术产生了很大的影响。他的书画篆刻创作,个性鲜明,颇有成就。上承谢景卿、黎简、冯敏昌等人的衣钵,下启朱次琦、陈澧、陈璞、康有为、梁启超。对岭南地区的书法传承和发展起到重要的促进作用。

Xie Lansheng was a famous poet, scholar, educator and painter of Guangdong in the Qing Dynasty. His literary and artistic thought is closely related with the times and embodied in his prefaces and postscripts. His viewpoints are distinct and unique, bringing profound impact on the literature and art of South of the Five Rid- ges. His calligraphy and seal cutting creation were distinctive and quite successful and greatly promoted the inheritance and development of the calligraphy of South of the Five Ridges area.
