Brief Biography of Wang Shenxuan as a Modern Famous Doctor

王慎轩是我国近代著名的中医学家、中医教育家、妇科专家,笃信佛教,慈悲悯人,为"佛医生"。师从多名名医,创办苏州中医国医学社,创办多个中医刊物,教书育人,孜孜不倦,著书立说,桃李天下。王老中医妇科造诣深厚,注重首求因,治本病,调奇经,疏情志,药轻灵。治疗妇科常见病,王老强调要辨证求因,审因论治,在脏腑、经络、气血之生理关系的基础上,分析其病理变化,并十分注重分析患者的病史以及精神因素。认为凡是因他病累及者,宜先治他病。用药时,必加入调理奇经八脉的药物,认为香燥之品伤精耗气,对香燥之剂,力戒不可过用。王老提出女子多气少血、气机不畅是妇科百病的致病原因。

Wang Shenxuan is a modern famous Chinese medicine doctor, Chinese medicine educator and gynecologist. He sincerely believes in Buddhism with mercy and benevolence, called as ＂ Buddhist Doctor＂. Most of his teachers are famous doctors. He foun- ded the Traditional Chinese Medicine Society of Suzhou and multiple periodicals of Chinese medicine, devoting to impart knowl- edge and educate people, write books and build theories. Doctor Wang has profound academic attainments in TCM gynecology,lays emphasis on the seeking of disease causes, treat the root cause, regulate extraordinary meridians, disperse depressive emotions with light herbs. For commonly-seen gynecological diseases, doctor Wang stresses the determination of etiologic factor based on syn- drome differentiation ,conduct treatment based on the investigation of the etiologic factor. On the basis of the physiological relation- ships between viscera,merdians and collaterals, qi and blood, he analyzes the pathological changes and highly value the medical history and mental factor of the patients. He holds that any disorder caused by a certain disease, the disease should be treated first. In drug use, drugs with effects of regulating the eight extraordinary meridians should be added. He believes that drugs with fragrant flavor and dry property may impair essence and qi, so this kind of drugs should not be overused. Besides, he proposes that females are abundant in qi but deficient in blood, and obstructed qi movement is the pathogenic cause for various gynecological diseases.
