劳乃宣是清末民初政治上守旧但在语言学上富有造诣的人物。基于教育救国的理念,他在王照官话合声字母的基础上,创设了拼写南方方言的合声简字,并积极向朝廷推荐。他还成立简字学堂,传播合声简字,并取得了良好的教学效果。

Lao Naixuan is a Guard of feudal society and a famous linguist. For the idea of saving the nation through education, he created the alphabetic writing for the Chinese to spell the Southern Chinese Dialects, and recommended to the court. He established the School of alphabetic writing, spread the alphabetic writing and achieved good teaching results.
