This paper delineates the construction processes of Catholic churches in Central Shandong area. Based on historical records and extensive fieldwork, it makes categorization and statistics of churches with various styles in this area. It examines several cases to study when the missionaries started building churches in Central Shandong, how local techniques cast influence on construction, and how Western elements were absorbed into traditional Chinese culture. It concludes with factors of significant influence on stylistic characteristics of the churches in this area.
