The Application of Dynamics and Contextual Correlate of Adaptability Theory to the Analysis of Courteous Language in Business English Letters

礼貌用语作为商务英语信函中的一个非常显著的语言特点,历来被语言学者关注。从理论的角度研究这些礼貌用语,并分析其应用情况,不仅丰富了语言学研究,而且对商务英语信函的写作有着重要的指导作用。该领域以往的研究多采用Grice的合作原则和Leech的礼貌原则,该文则以Verschueren的语境动态顺应理论为依据阐述这一语言现象。

Business English is an means in business communication,and as its written form business English correspondence has the unique language features,one of them being the use of courteous expressions. The theoretical analysis of the courteous language in business English has not only enriched the linguistic research,but also plays an important role in guiding business correspondence writing. The previous studies in this area were mainly based on Grice's Cooperative Principles and Leech's Politeness Principles,and this paper applies Verschueren's contextual correlate of adaptability and dynamics of adaptability as the theoretic basis in the explanation of this phenomenon.
