"Like" as a Conjunction in American English: A COCA-based Study

Like一般作为介词和动词在英语中使用,然而是否还有别的用法呢?该文从美国当代英语语料库(COCA)中对like进行检索,考察其作为连词时候的使用情况。分析结果表明:首先,like作为连词的意思大概可以分为三种情况。其次,like作为连词的使用频率明显低于其作为介词和动词时的使用频率;再词,like作为连词的普遍度在最近十年内呈上升趋势,在口语中的出现最多。希望通过该文能够对英语学习者和研究者有所启发。

The word 'like' is generally accepted by English language users as a verb or a preposition, but could it be used in some other ways? This study is a discussion of 'like' as a conjunction by searching Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA). The important findings are as follows: first, the meanings of 'like' as a conjunction are roughly divided into three types; second, the usage frequency of'like' as a conjunction is much less than that as a preposition or a verb; third, there is a slightly noticeable tendency that the usage of ' like' as a conjunction is increasingly accepted by people, especially in oral English. Hopefully, this study will make some enlightenments for English language learners and researchers.
