摘要 This paper is going to probe Thackeray’s critical attitudes towards women’s role as an angel in the house in Victorian time as reflected in his masterpiece Vanity Fair. It can be divided into three parts, introduction, which gives main information about the novel, then an analysis of the two major women characters in the novel to show that irony of being a family angel without happy ending, and the discussion of Thackeray’s sarcasm toward this phenomenon reflected in the novel. At the end of the paper, a list of biography is presented.
