By analyzing Elizabeth Barrett Browning's Aurora Leigh(1856) and George Eliot's Middlemarch(1872),this essay attempts to locate the similarities between these two famous epic novels produced in the Victorian Era(1837-1901).The possible similarities between these two novels:they are both dealing with female growth in the Victorian age,and both in traditionally male epic form.Besides,they are of a similar family background;both of their fathers have tremendous impact upon them.Last but not least,the men in the novels are antiheroes.They are less macho,but more sensitive,and more ready to give out love to support their lover's career and will.
