The Way to Identify Unnatural Pauses in Chinese EFL Learners' Monologue

不自然的停顿影响口语输出的流利度。研究在一所大学随机选取三十五名英语专业二年级学生口语独白的语料,作为样本。请两位英语为母语的人士,根据他们自己的语感,对受试者自述部分的停顿是否自然做出判断。他们的判断以及访谈结果显示影响停顿是否自然的判断因素有六个:停顿种类,停顿是否伴随其他不流利现象,停顿位置,停顿时长,语流含义以及相临位置的停顿时长。基于此,分析了不流利停顿的特点,并做出区分本样本中不流利停顿的方法。

Unnatural pauses made by students for hesitation indicate dysfluency.The research aims at working out a method to identify the unnatural pauses in Chinese EFL learners' monologues.The researcher randomly chose thirty-five English major sophomores in a university.Two native speakers of English from America helped to identify all the unnatural pauses in the monologue.The study showed that features of unnatural pauses were described in six factors:pause type,dysfluency markers,pause location,pause duration,meaning of the speech chunk,and the pausing time at the adjacent location.Features of the unnatural pauses were analyzed,and the way to identify the unnatural pauses in this sample is proposed.
