The Other Side of Religion:the Role of Religion in American Public Life

在新世纪中,有关宗教的争论从未停止过:精神层面上,是否精神信仰可以代替宗教作为有组织的意识形态的作用,是否宗教阻碍了全球民主的发展,以及宗教与传统西方价值观念,例如正义和自由的关系,这一切都让人们犹豫迟疑。该文试图对此诸种困惑给出另一侧面的回答,即凸显宗教在公众生活中的作用。通过宗教在社会生活三方面强有力的作用(资本和人力投入,所从事的公益事业,宗教对于政府、社区和公众的重要性)的剖析,人们可以更深入了解宗教对于社会的意义。

In the new century,the dispute with regards of religion has never ceased:in spiritual level,whether religion as an organized ideology should be replaced by spirituality,whether religion hinders the development of global democracy and its relation with the traditional conceptions such as justice and freedom have made people wonder and doubt.In all the confusions,this paper try to make efforts to give a circular answer by putting forward the role of religion in public life.In the illustration of the powerful force of religion in public life in three parts namely the capital and human resource input,the benevolent activities it conducts,the significance of religion involving in public life towards the government,the community and the people,we hope that people can understand religion better in today's society.
