张爱玲作为上世纪四十年代最具代表性的女作家之一,其作品曾一度受到评论界的重视。该文通过文本分析结合西方哥特小说理论试将张爱玲笔下的人物分为四类:施暴者、柔弱女子、心灵扭曲者、鬼影。他们有着传统哥特人物的特点,或者阴险狡诈,蛮横专制;或者美丽柔弱,命运坎坷;或者内心扭曲,荒诞不经;又或者麻木不仁,心如死灰。这四类哥特人物共同支撑起张爱玲笔下的鬼声啾啾,鬼影幢幢的哥特世界。该文通过对他们的分析,定位了张爱玲小说中哥特人物的特质、展现了当时社会的混沌与愚昧、人们内心的封锁与幽闭,从而揭示了小说中挥之不去的悲凉主题。
As one of the most representative female writers in 1940s, Eileen Chang's works were once thought highly by critics. Based on the Gothic theory, this thesis is supposed to divide figures of her novels into four types: the dictator, the effeminate female, the soul-twisted, and the dead soul, all of whom share some similarities with the typical gothic figures: insidious, arbitrary, effeminate, abnormal, indifferent and ridiculous. These four kinds of figures weave a world full of ghosts. Based on the analysis, this thesis displays the characteristics of Eileen Chang's gothic figures, discloses the ignorance of the world of that time and reveals the disturbance of the most people, arriving at the theme of her novels—sad.
