摘要
后殖民翻译理论认为,存在权力差异的不同文化、不同社会、不同国家、不同民族之间的文化交流总是不平衡的,总是存在强势文化对弱势文化的侵略;翻译既可以充当着强势文化侵略弱势文化的帮凶角色,也可以成为消解西方国家文化霸权的力量。翻译中的杂合是不同语言文化交流的必然产物,沙博理作为一名出生于纽约并在中国生活了多年的翻译家,其《水浒传》译本在面对英语语言文化与汉语语言文化间的文化差异时,采用了异化为主,以归化、简化为辅的翻译策略,既成功地使译文具有目标读者熟悉的语言特征,同时也保留了原文本中汉语的特征,使两种文化在同一平台上平等对话,这一巧妙的翻译手法对中外交流,特别是对中国文化的对外传播起了重要的意义。
Postcolonial translation theories propose that cultural intercommunications between different cultures, societies, countries and nations in which power differentials exist are unbalanced, and hegemonic culture always invades vulnerable culture; translation services as each the accomplice of cultural colonist or the force of dispelling cultural hegemony. Hybridity in translation is the essential product from intercommunication of different languages. As a translator who was born in New York and has been living in China for years, Sidney Shapiro reserved both characteristics of Chinese and English by the strategy of foreignization based, and domestication, simplification supplemented, in his translating of Outlaws of the Marsh(Shui Hu Zhuan). This masterly translation approach is with important meaning for intercommunication between China and foreign countries, especially for the out-spreading of Chinese culture.
