As a feminist writer who is much concerned about the survival condition of black women under the patriarchal system, Alice Walker has deeply exposed the oppression and discrimination received by women. At the same time, Walker also concerns about the destiny of nature and points out that human are facing serious ecological crisis. Walker's ecological perspective criticizes the oppression women and nature has endured in a world of patriarchal outlook. Walker's novel By the Light of My Father's Smile is a masterpiece which preaches ecological thoughts. Through revealing the intimate connection between women and nature, this novel proposes that women should hold together to resist the 'other'image of women and nature in patriarchal society. Nature, men and women should live together in a harmonious and unified state to establish new interpersonal relationship and create beautiful homeland.
