A Comparative Analysis of Preferences and Taboos in Numbers between Chinese and English

数字是物质世界的一个反映。它在符号的帮助下产生于远古时期。它是人类思维发展到一定阶段的结果,也是为了满足交流需求的产物。随着社会文明的发展,不同社会背景下的数字蕴含了丰富的文化含义。中国与英语国家的历史和发展不同,因此中国人与英语国家的人民对于数字有不同的喜好和禁忌。该文研究了中英国家的不同喜好与禁忌,旨在为跨文化交际提供有益的参考。

Number is a reflection of the objective material world. It derived in the ancient times with the help of the symbol. It is the result of the development of human thinking in a certain stage, and is the production of the desire to meet the needs of communication. With the development of social civilization, numbers has gained rich cultural connotations under the different social context. China has a very different history from the English-speaking countries, as a result Chinese people have very different preferences and taboos in Numbers from the English-speaker, this paper tries to explore the distinctions, thus to facilitate cross-cultural communication.
