Emerson's theological thoughts exert a great influence on the secularization of religion in America. John Updike, has profound religious thoughts in creating his novels. Taking Nature and Rabbit, Run as examples, the author wants to present that there is a great change from Emerson to Updike. Secularized religion in American literature has experienced a change from 'God'to 'Me'.
