变革以课本为依托的大学英语精读教学模式

A Reform of Textbook-Based Intensive Reading Instruction in College English Teaching

针对大学英语教学"费时低效"问题,文章剖析了传统的以课本为依托的大学英语精读教学模式的弊端,并指出当前大学英语面临的关键问题并不是通过精读课学习多少新单词,而是如何让学生对学过的单词达到熟练应用的程度。文章建议削减并逐步取消大学英语精读课,开展以英语泛读项目为中心,辅之以人文类与专业类选修课,自主学习与社会实践为两翼的大学英语教学模式。

Given the problem of so-called 'time-consumption and low-efficiency in College English Teaching(CET),the paper analyzed the disadvantages of textbook-based intensive reading instruction and argued that the essential issue confronting CET was not that how many new words should be taught to the students through intensive reading course but that to what extent they could make use of the words learned before fluently.Therefore it is proposed that extensive reading program should be established both inside and outside the classroom with the reduction of intensive reading course.Meanwhile,some elective courses for GE(general English) and ESP(English for specific purpose) can be integrated into the whole program.Besides,students' autonomous learning ability and social practice skills should be promoted.
