Transitivity Analysis of News Reports on Beijing's Snowfall after Drought in 2009

新闻报道虽然本着客观真实的原则,但绝对客观公正的报道是不存在的,其背后往往隐藏着报道者的态度立场。批评性话语分析是一种新兴的话语分析方法,以Halliday的系统功能语法为理论工具,旨在揭示话语、权力和意识形态之间的关系。选取《卫报》和《泰晤士报》对北京大旱降雪这一事件的不同报道为语料,根据Halliday的语言概念功能,通过及物性系统,对其进行批评性话语分析,探讨两家新闻媒体对这一事件的不同态度,以提高读者的语言意识,帮助读者正确合理地解读新闻报道。

Although news reports are in line with the principle of being objective and real,there exists no report which is absolutely objective and fair.The reporter's attitude and position are often hidden behind them.Critical discourse analysis is a new method of discourse analysis,with Halliday's systematic functional grammar as its theoretical basis,and aiming to reveal the relationship among words,power and ideology.This paper selects two reports about the snowfall in Beijing after the severe drought,one from 'the Guardian' and the other from 'The Times'.According to Halliday's ideational function of the language,it makes a critical discourse analysis of these two different reports through the transitivity system and studies the different attitudes of these two media towards this event,in order to enhance the readers' language awareness and help them interpret the news reports correctly and reasonably.
