A Rose for Emily,William Faulkner's most famous short story,presents the change of Southern society after the American Civil War.This novel has its own special features in the characterization and description of the themes.This thesis mainly deals with the characters and themes in A Rose for Emily.It mainly analyzes the characters such as Emily,her father and her lover Homer.Those characters not only affect the inner self but the outer self of Emily.This paper will try to analyze the reasons of Emily's tragic misfortune under the pressure of patriarchal society and the southern morals.
