Reexamining the Historical Contributions of Translator Zhou Shoujuan in Modern Perspective

从晚清时期开始,很多外国的文学作品被翻译成中文,对诗歌、戏剧、散文和小说等文学形式的发展产生了重大影响。民国初年的翻译家和编辑家周瘦鹃在这其中起着承上启下的作用。虽然,他曾经是饱受诟病的鸳鸯蝴蝶派的代表人物,但是当我们在当代思想的视域下回顾历史,会发现他的许多历史贡献不仅是开创性的,而且是无可替代的。

Since the late Qing Dynasty, many foreign literary works have been translated into Chinese, which exerted profovmd impact on development of poetry, drama, prose and novel. In the early years of the Republic of China, Zhou Shoujuan, a anslator and editor, played a very important role in this. Although he suffered a lot for his garish writing style, when we review the history in contemporary perspective, we can find that many of his historical contributions are not only groundbreaking but also irreplaceable.
