Doris Lessing always keeps a watchful eye on the Other. Both the black and the diasporic white women in the colony in her works are colonial Others. The Grass Is Singing is one of Lessing's important works based on her life experience in Africa. The identity puzzle, pursuit, and transgression of the black and the white women in this novel are interpreted from the perspective of cultural identity. So identification of both the colonized Others and the female Others in Lessing's African works is explored, and their identity troubles in the process of cultural identity changes under the heterogeneous cultural conflicts and integration are analyzed. Thus, survival predicament and spiritual pain of the colonial Others as well as power operation in the colony are revealed, which provides revelation for identification in the context of globalization.
