Certain words from Youyangzazu (a rare literary miscellany) by Duan Chengshi in the Tang Dynasty have their own specific connotations. They are either undefined in ordinary dictionaries, or, explained as they are, merit further improvement. The paper singles out twelve words from Duan's book for exposition or complementary explanation.
