The essential pathogenesis of hyperthyroidism is deficiency in origin and excess in superficiality. At first,there are constraint and stagnation of Qi as well as congealing fluid and gathering phlegm. The phlegm and Qi contend with each other and condense in the front of the neck. As time goes by,there come stasis and obstruction of blood and vessels. Qi,phlegm and stasis combine with each other and then transform into fire,which consumes Qi,damages Yin and impairs Yang,resulting in heart and liver Yin deficiency as well as spleen and kidney depletion,finally turning into deficiency-excess complex syndrome. This article takes the internal wind theory in Chinese medicine as the point of penetration,suggests that Chinese herbal medicines for wind diseases can be combined in the formulas to soothe the liver and rectify Qi,dissolve phlegm and dissipate masses,dispel stasis and soften hard masses,clear liver heat and drain fire,enrich Yin and subdue Yang,supplement the kidney and fortify the spleen as well as guide other Chinese herbs to the proper position.
