The Field of Life and Death, which is written by Xiao I-Iong, depicts the numbness, indifference and ignorance of the people in the bottom of the society and the tragic life picture of female groups through the comparison of the living conditions of ＂human＂ and ＂ani- mal＂. This novel uses a series of images of alienation, symbolic and description of contradiction to foil the theme of life and death. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the main use of the sun image in The Field of Life and Death, the aesthetic value of the sun image, and the connotation of ＂images of life and death＂ to further understanding of the creation of Xiao Hong＇s unique charm and cultural connota- tion of the thoughts in the works.
