A Brief Review of British Libraries' Translation and Introduction History in the Late Qing Dynasty

梳理晚清英国图书馆译介史料,运用传播学理论获得的研究结果表明,林则徐、梅辉立、郭嵩焘、郑观应、林乐知、古城贞吉、孙毓修、蔡文森、王国维、王滔、任廷旭等人为英国图书馆主要译介者。19世纪末20世纪初,英国图书馆重视藏书建设和书目服务,实行图书呈缴制,接受捐赠,任人入馆阅览。当时至少有12种报刊登载译介英国图书馆的文章。英国图书馆对近代中国图书馆事业产生了重要影响。

The paper gets the result that Lin Zexu, Willian Frederick Mayers, Guo Songdao, Zhen Guanyun, Lin Lezhi, Kozyo Satakichi, Sun Yuxiu, Cai Wensen, Wang Guowei,Wang Tao, Ren Tingxu and others are the main translators and introducers of British libraries by considering the relevant historical materials of British li-braries in the Late Qing Dynasty, and using the theory of communication science. At the end of nineteenth century and early twentieth century, British libraries paid attention to the collection development and bibliographic services, carried out book presentation system, accepted donations7 and allowed people to read books in libraries. There were at least twelve newspapers and magazines which published articles about British libraries at that time. British libraries had important influences on the cause of modern Chinese libraries.
