《太平广记》共辑录涉海叙事七十三篇。既有审美性的海洋想象,也有生活化的海洋写实。其所呈现的海洋世界,是综合性的。它们反映出古人多方面的海洋人文意识:海洋是神仙居住的地方,是智者、勇者和异人的活动场所,海洋生活又是异常艰难的,海洋民间宗教思想无所不在。《太平广记》既是先秦至宋的各类涉海文献的汇辑,也是古代海洋人文思想的集大成者。

The novel Taiping Guangji altogether contains 73 narrations involving the sea. It has both the marine imagination in aesthetic nature and the realistically marine description of living. The ocean world presented in the novel is synthetic, reflecting ancients＇ consciousness of marine humanity, such as the residence of celestial beings, the arena of the wise, the brave and the the unusual men. It shows that the marine life is extraordinarily hard and the marine folk religious thought is ubiquitous. As a result, the novel Taiping Guangji is not only the compilation of various marine literature ranging from the pre-Qin period to the Song Dynasty but also the comprehensive expression of ancient marine humanistic thought.
