The paper approaches the ethical care in contemporary British writer Ian McEwan's 2001 novel Atonement and mainly focuses on three aspects: Whose evil? How to atone? Is the atonement successful? It argues that besides Briony, those people who are indulged in order or pursue war in the name of justice should atone. In the novel Robbie's war experience is narrated in way of Kristeva's "women's time" and Briony as a care giver nurses in the hospital, thus the novel tends to deconstruct the male-centred order and to construct a kind of "maternity-centered" care ethics, and to atone. Robbie's conscience is awake before his death and Briony grows to be an ethical care- giver through writing.
