A Review of the Studies of the Historiography in the Ming Dynasty Since the 20th Century

明代史学是中国史学发展历程中的重要一环,自有其独到的价值。真正意义上的明代史学研究,始于二十世纪初,其滥觞于国外,成熟于国内,至今已形成了研究的国际化局面;它历经了通史论著中的整体研究、断代式的综合研究,纷沓而来的是数量庞大的个案研究与专题研究。明代官方史学活动及其与政治的关系研究、明人前代史研究、明代野史与史学思潮及考据学研究、明修方志研究、具体的史家与史著研究、明代民族史学与域外史学研究等方面,均结出了累累硕果,展现出重视挖掘与运用新材料、研究视野广阔、方法多样、拓展与深化研究内容等特点。然而,该领域研究也存在诸多不足,理论、材料、方法的突破,依然是今后研究的努力方向。

The historiography in the Ming dynasty belongs to one part of Chinese historiography, which occupies particular value. Studies on the historiography in the Ming dynasty were initiated in the early twentieth century overseas, matured in China. The studies have undergone the overall research in general historyworks, synthetic study in dynastic history works, monographic research and the case study. Certainly, the studies have gained many achievements, for example, the official historiography activities, the relationship between politics and his- toriography activities, the research of former dynastic history by historians in the Ming dynasty, unofficial histo- ry, academic thoughts, textual research, local records, historians or works, ethno - history, the extraterrestrial historiography. The achievements show some features, such as, the excavation and the utilization of up - to - date literature, the wide horizon, the diversified methods, deepening of research content. However, the studies on historiography in the Ming dynasty are still insufficient. The innovations in theory, literature and method needed to be strengthened.
