The Formation of Boileau's View of Rationality

理性是布瓦洛古典主义文艺观中的根本原则,在《诗的艺术》中有十分清晰直观的体现。它来源于对柏拉图、亚里士多德与贺拉斯的理论继承,也受到了17世纪以笛卡尔为代表的理性主义哲学思潮的深刻启发,还与当时的法国的政治经济环境与文艺状况有直接联系。正是由于这些多重因素的综合影响,布瓦洛主张文艺创作和评价都要以理性为重。在早年讽刺诗的推动下,理性原则的内涵推陈出新,并且在《诗的艺术》中渐渐明朗,对整个法国文坛产生了积极的影响。

Rationality is the fundamental principle in Boileau＇s Classical view of literature and art, and is reflected explicitly in The Art of Poetry. Boileau＇s view of rationality came from the inheritance of Plato, Aristotle and Horace. And it was inspired deeply by rationalist philosophical trend whose representative was Descartes in 17th century. It also had direct connect with the environment of political and economy and literary situation in France. Because of the influences of the above factors, Boileau highly valued rationality in literary creation and evaluation. With the promotion of satirical poems in his early years, the connotation of rationality was updated continually, and was shown clearly in The Art of Poetry. Boileau＇s rationality had a positive impact on the French literary world.
