While A Woman Servant, a novel by Lin Baoyin, a Singaporean-Chinese writer, has an international impact, the world of criticism, regretfully, stops at the level of a post-colonial gaze in its research into the large number of existant traditional Chinese cultural practices without an in-depth analysis of the rich cultural information contained therein. With the' motif of myth' of her fiction as an entry point, this article intends to dig into its prototypes by exploring the link between the' motif of myth' and other narrative elements to make up for the lack of research therein.
