The translated version of Barthelme's Miss Mandy and I translated by Chen Dongbiao makes a great clamor in social media, and the focus of the debate lies in its straightforward language, word for word translation, non-conforming to Chinese reading and expression habits as well as the questioned level of the translator. This paper, explores the translator's original intention from a perspective of translation ethics, and argues that the translator does it on purpose and makes the creative rebellion in accordance with the banter "style" of source so as to give play to the translator's subjectivity and to fully demonstrate the heterogeneity of the original.
