著名英文专栏《小评论》与中国现代小品文发展

On the Famous English Newspaper Column "The Little Critic" and the Development of Modern Chinese Essays

作为民国时期国人自办英文报刊The China Critic(《中国评论周报》)上的著名专栏,The Little Critic(《小评论》)由林语堂于1930年创办用以发表形式自由、内容广泛的英文随笔及小品文。《小评论》不仅刊载了林语堂创作的大量英文小品文,为其此后着力倡导小品文文学思想及创办《论语》《人间世》等杂志提供了丰富的前期经验;同时该专栏还吸引了全增嘏、张培基等中国现代知识分子加入编辑作者群体中,展开持久而丰富的英文小品文创作实践。因此而言,中国现代知识分子以《小评论》为出版媒介进行英文小品文创作,将外国小品文样式移植引入中国文学土壤,促进中国现代小品文的发展与繁荣。

The China Critic is a famous English-language newspaper edited by modem Chinese intellectuals during the period of the Republic of China,on which there is an important column named n The Little Criticn. This column was set up by Lin Yutang in 1930 who has published many English essays. These English essays have laid a solid foundation for his English writing to spreading Chi-nese culture to the world. This column has also attracted other modern Chinese intellectuals to be its editors and writers. Thus from this perspective,we can find that ”The Little Critic” has been a publishing media,through which modern Chinese intellectuals have trans-planted foreign essay style into Chinese literary world and promoted the development of modern Chinese essays.
