Wolfgang Kubin is the foreign Sinologist who has conducted the most criticism on contemporary Chinese literature.There are three important judgments in his critical discourse,including the outdatedness of storytelling,the dying out of avant-garde literature and modernity,and the decline of novel writing in China and the world.These judgments are a reflection of his own values regarding modern literature that are based on Freudian psychoanalysis.They also explain his'unavoidable criticism of Mo Yan.'An analysis of these opinions and judgments may help to clarify some basic academic propositions and may help with our evaluation of the achievements of contemporary Chinese literature.
